Wellbutrin Birth Defects

Wellbutrin, the brand name of bupropion – an antidepressant manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, has been linked to a specific type of cardiac birth defect. This heart birth defect, referred to as a left outflow heart birth defect, can usually be corrected with surgery, but all surgery is serious, especially on infants. Wellbutrin birth defects usually occur when the mother took Wellbutrin or Zyban any time from one month before becoming pregnant to three months after. GlaxoSmithKline isn’t new to problems coming from drug side effects. The company has defended over ten thousand Avandia lawsuits after the diabetes drug caused an estimated one hundred thousand heart attacks and an even greater number of strokes and other cardiovascular problems. The first Avandia warning from the FDA occurred in 2007 and Avandia lawsuits began to be filed shortly thereafter. Click here for more information.
